Swami Samartha of Akkalkot

Akkalkot is a Holy place of Shri.Swami Samarth Maharaj. It is located at a distance of 38 kms. by road from Solapur District headquarters. This Saint is believed to be an Avatara of Lord Dattatraya. The Samadhi of this Saint is worshipped by the devotees all over Maharashtra and other Parts of the Country. His Avatara Samapti Day is celebrated on Chaitra Shuddha Trayodashi every year. Large number of devotees visit the place every day.

The present temple is built around famous banyan tree. This is the same banyan tree sitting under which Shri.Swami Maharaj used to meditate and preach the followers. The temple consists of main temple, Sabha mandap and accommodation. Annacchatra has organized daily free Meals (twice a day) by temple authorities.

Sri Swami Samarth Maharaj came to Akkalkot at the beginning of Shake 1779. The total period of reincarnation of Swamiji as the fourth Avataar of Shri Datta is 40 years of which he spent 21 years in Akkalkot Kshetra.

From the historic point of view Shri.Swami Maharaj brought to an end his avatar in Shake 1800. But after three months, he resurrected and appeared before the faithful in Kashi (Varanasi). The holy Samadhi of Shri. Swamiji is loacated in the house of shri. Cholappa in the place already reserved for it before his bodily demise. This is known as Samadhi Math. The spiritual fearless slogan in marathi ‘BHIU NAKOS MI TUJHYA PATHISHI AAHE’ (Don’t fear, I am with you) is given by Shri. Samarth Swami Maharaj himself.

India is Known to be a most Religious country and Maharashtra is known as land of saint.

The solution for every problem for his Devotees is the name of Swami Samarth (Maharaj). Maharaj knows everything.

According to the Most Believed Legend , Sri Swami Samarth appeared in the forest of Kardalli. Then he traveled whole India and 1837 he came to Mangalweda. He lived there for 12 years. He didnt become much popular in Mangalweda. Swami samarth was an avatar of Shree Dattatrya.

He traveled from Mangalweda to Pandharpur, Begampur, Kalamba and 1849 he arrived in Mohal.

Maharaj lived in Mohal for 5 years and came to Solapur.

After traveling some time in 1854-1855 he came to Akkalkot at last after that he was know by Akkalkot swami samarth.

In the Outskirts of Akkalkot there is a temple of Khandoba. Maharaj arrived there first.

Then he decided to make his entry into Akkalkot and stayed for 3 days without food.

That time some Musalman brothers saw him. They thought he was great person, but how they can invite him.

They told Maharaj that he should come in Brahaman family which was there neighbor. Then he went to Chollappa’s home. When he came to home he introduced about previous life. After that he lived in Akkalkot for 22 years.

Swami Samarth was know as Chaitanya, Narsimhasaraswati, Chanchalbharti, Degambarbooa, Narsihabhan.

Swami Samarth Annachatra Mandal gives mahaprasad daily two times, at noon and at night at 8 p.m.
